For those of you who have been involved with Girl Scouts in some capacity at any time in your life, you are probably familiar with the song “Make New Friends.” It’s a classic tune and speaks to the spirit of Girl Scouting. We value making new friends (and keeping the old!), and encourage girls to be a sister to every Girl Scout. As we head into a new Girl Scout season, with new Girl Scouts joining our family, we want to make sure that those who want to join a troop have that opportunity. So today, I present to you, my humble pitch to add a new girl or two to your troop this year.
Not only is adding new girls to your troop a way for you to be an awesome role model who is leading by example, it’s also a chance for your troop to make new friendships and connections. (And for you too! The parent of a new girl could become your new bestie or a rock-star cookie mom.) By opening your doors to new girls, you are helping to carry out the Girl Scout tradition of being friendly and inclusive.
If you can take a new girl (or a few) this year, make sure your troop is listed on the online catalog. It’s quick and easy – just provide a few details about your troop and tell us how many girls you can accept. This will give families the option to join your troop online. You will get an email notification every time a new girl joins your troop.
In addition to displaying your troop in the catalog, yours truly has created a few resources for you to use to let others know your troop is accepting more girls:
- Troop meeting invitations for your troop girls to give to a friend
- Customizable flyers
- Social media image to post and share and a Facebook cover photo
Thank you for helping to ensure Girl Scouting is an option for every girl!
