If you’re leading a troop of middle school or high school girls, you are no stranger to the stresses teen girls have on their plate. Whether it’s related to sports, school, friends, or family – girls have to juggle a lot. While teen years are a ways behind me, I remember desperately wanting to look cool, fit in, and most of all appear to have it all together. As a leader, girls look to you for all of the answers so it’s nice to have a few go-to resources when your scouts are stressin’. Change to Chill is a resource from Allina Health that helps girls identify what is stressing them and how to manage stress in a way that fits their personality.
What I love about Change to Chill is that it has a really authentic vibe. It’s bright, it’s fun, and it meets teens where they are with language that speaks to them. If you’ve got an artistic bunch of girls, you can encourage them participate in the Chiller Challenge, a creative outlet contest for prizes.
Another great resource from Allina is Health Powered Kids. Allina Health and Girl Scouts teamed up to make healthy living activity plans that also meet badge requirements. The plans are super easy to follow, the girls are still earning their badges but there is an extra focus on the healthy living components of what they’re doing. If your girls complete two of the activity plans they get a free Allina Healthy Living Patch.
Healthy living is an area that Girl Scouts is really passionate about, on both a local and national level. We are looking for new ways to provide programming and activities that really speak to girls living their lives in a healthy manner and you as a leader are such a huge part of that conversation. Learn more about both of these programs and let me know what you think!
Wishing you and your girls a healthy and fun summer!
